- Water (boiling)750 ml
- Olive oil1 tsp

Method
- Fry the chopped bacon in the oil in a deep, heavy-based pan for 6–8 minutes until golden, adding the garlic for the last minute.
- Stir in the orzo and the boiling water and simmer gently, uncovered, for 12–15 minutes, stirring often so it does not stick.
- Add the peas for the last 5 minutes, with a splash more boiling water if it looks dry before the pasta is tender.
- Meanwhile, steam or boil the broccoli until tender.
- Take the orzo off the heat, stir in the cheddar until creamy and season with black pepper, tasting before adding any salt.
- Serve with the broccoli.
Tip: The creaminess comes from the pasta starch and cheese, so there is no cream to buy.
